Luna's Story

04 Mar 2025

Sweet and affectionate English Bulldog Luna arrived at Battersea as a stray and quickly charmed kennel staff with her cuddly ways and love of sitting on laps.

On arrival, Luna had a thorough check over by Battersea’s expert vets and sadly she was found to have several complicated medical conditions, which would require treatment before she could be rehomed.

Along with severe screw tail and congested ears, Battersea vets found that poor Luna had severe Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS), a respiratory disease common in flat faced dog breeds.

Luna would pant heavily even at rest and had difficulty walking for extended periods, often breathing with a loud congested snore-like sound.

Knowing that Luna’s quality of life was seriously affected, Battersea vets swiftly prioritised Luna for BOAS surgery. The intensive surgery was successful in opening Luna’s airways and after a period of convalescence and further surgery to remove her ingrown tail, Luna was ready to look for a new home.

After more than two months at Battersea, Luna found her ideal home with an experienced English Bulldog owner in London. Thanks to the expert care Luna received at Battersea, she is now able to enjoy longer walks and energetic games with her new resident feline friend Victoria.
