The triumphant feline is without doubt the cat that got the cream. Following weeks of frenzied campaigning from all six candidates, Midnight clawed his way to the top with a landslide victory of 49% of the public vote.
Whilst campaigning for the title with his popular pawlicies, Midnight promised moggies across the country networking parties for cats in Downing Street, compulsory cat-related Prime Minister’s Questions every Wednesday, and a new Feline Select Committee and APPG.
Victoria Prentis, proud owner of Midnight and Conservative MP for Banbury, said: “I am thrilled that Midnight’s dedication to the campaign has paid off. I know that he will be getting to work on implementing his manifursto commitments straightaway. Finding good homes for all the rescue cats currently living in temporary accommodation is a top priority. No doubt Midnight’s first Purr Minister’s Question Time will be a lively affair.”
The shortlisted contenders who missed out on the esteemed title include Casper and Cinnamon, submitted by Claire Perry, Conservative MP for Devizes; Scamp, submitted by Dr David Drew, Labour MP for Stroud; Parsnip, submitted by Mark Spencer, Conservative MP for Sherwood; Rigel, submitted Rt Hon Dame Caroline Spelman, Conservative MP for Meriden; and Alfie, submitted by Rt Hon Ann Clwyd, Labour MP for Cynon Valley.
