Battersea Governance

Our committees and council play a vital role. They ensure that our work supports Battersea’s strategy and delivers the best possible impact on dogs and cats in the UK and around the world.

COUNCIL

The Council is the highest decision-making group of the charity. It is responsible for governance and oversees the activities of the Committees (listed below). It has final say on a number of our projects, programmes and strategies. Council is made up of the Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer (who are also referred to as honorary officers and can, jointly, make decisions as an Executive Committee of Council) and a number of Trustees. To help manage the responsibilities of Council, it has delegated some of its responsibilities to our Committees.

 

COMMITTEES

The role of Battersea Committees is to provide governance oversight for all aspects of Battersea’s work on behalf of the Council. Our committees play a vital role in our organisation. They ensure that our work supports Battersea’s strategy. This support helps us deliver the best possible impact on dogs and cats in the UK and around the world.

 

GLOBAL PROGRAMMES COMMITTEE

The Global Programmes Committee is responsible for overseeing the governance of the Global Programmes work including Grants, the Academy, research and strategic partnerships. The Committee plays a vital role in our organization. It ensures that all Global Programmes align with Battersea’s strategy. This alignment helps deliver the best possible impact on dogs and cats in the UK and around the world.

ANIMAL HEALTH & WELFARE COMMITTEE

The Animal Health and Welfare Committee is responsible for providing governance oversight and support in respect of animal health and welfare at Battersea. This includes the work of Battersea’s Operations and Clinic directorates.

FINANCE, AUDIT & RISK COMMITTEE

The role of this Committee is to oversee all financial aspects of Battersea. This committee oversees the risks and compliance of the charity to make sure that Battersea is complying with all financial aspects of the law, relevant regulations and good practice.

PEOPLE COMMITTEE

This committee is focused on the staff here at Battersea. It oversees our policies and processes in place and the overall approaches to people management to support the delivery of Battersea’s Strategic Plan. The committee promotes an effective, high performing and diverse workforce and positive organisational culture.

GOVERNANCE & NOMINATIONS COMMITTEE

This committee appropriate legislation and codes issued by the Charity Commission and advises the Council as to impact and any actions to be taken.

SUPPORTING BOARDS

These Boards have been established to bring together a group of experienced, senior level individuals from a cross section of sectors. They use their expertise and networks to advance the aims and objectives of some of our big programmes. These Boards work in an advisory capacity to the executive team and do not have a formal governance role.

This Board provides a vital sounding board on the strategy and operational aspects of Global Programmes. As well as opening the door to new opportunities and networks.

This group provides a space for both internal and external specialists to collaborate. They come together to identify efficiencies and drive improvements in our use of data. This focus on data is important for both our animals and the dedicated humans who support our work.
