From Rescue to Media Star: Battersea Dog Sees His Name in Lights as Star of New Campaign

10 Sep 2024

A rescue dog from leading animal welfare charity, Battersea, took to the streets of London to see his name up in lights as the star of the charity’s Wear Blue for Rescue campaign.

Three-year-old Rory took a trip down memory lane looking back on his time at Battersea, visiting sites across the capital from beaming billboards to spotting himself across screens at the iconic Battersea Power Station, just a stone’s throw away from where the young Lurcher’s rescue journey began.

To make his moment of stardom even more special, the ads were translated into ‘dog language’ encouraging fellow canines and their owners across the capital to get involved and celebrate rescue.

Sarah Hughes, Rehoming and Welfare Manager at Battersea, said: “Like all the animals we care for at Battersea each year, Rory has a special place in our hearts, and we are so pleased that he is able to see just how far he has come through our Wear Blue for Rescue campaign, we couldn’t be more proud. This September is all about showing our love for the rescue dogs and cats, just like Rory, who need a second chance in life both here in the UK and around the world and we hope that pets and their humans keep a keen eye out for the ads and get involved.”

Rory was brought to Battersea due to a change in his owner’s circumstances, who made the decision to bring him to a rescue where he could find his ideal new home. During his stay, the young Lurcher proved to be a gentle natured dog who loved nothing more than spending his time around his favourite people to receive all the love and fuss he could get.
Although he loved being around people, Rory struggled to spend time on his own and would get worried when he wasn’t around his human friends. To help gain confidence, Rory took part in enrichment sessions where the charity’s staff would spend time playing with him as well as regular training sessions to keep his mind busy and help support him to settle when left on his own.

Thanks to the care and encouragement of the staff at Battersea, Rory was soon ready to find a new home and was matched with a family in London who have been giving him all the love he deserves and has even enjoyed day trips to the beach.
