A loveable Lurcher called Perry, who has been in the care of Battersea’s Old Windsor centre for over 18 months, recently celebrated his fourth birthday with a garden party as he continues his search for a home.
Perry has sadly been in the charity’s care for almost 600 days, more than 15 times longer than the average stay for a Battersea dog (35 days) and is yet to meet his ideal match. To celebrate his fourth birthday and lift his spirits, the charity’s dedicated staff threw Perry his very own birthday party adorned with gifts, toys and balloons, but Perry’s one birthday wish is for a family of his own.
Staff believe that the reason for Perry’s unusually long search for love is that he could be overly excited around people. However, since being in a foster home with one of Battersea’s dedicated Foster Carers, Perry has made great progress and has proved to be an affectionate and playful dog who enjoys spending time with his favourite people, loving nothing more than leaning in for a gentle fuss and scratch behind his ears.
Despite waiting for a home for such a long time, Perry never lets his spirits get dampened and is described by Battersea staff as a cheerful dog who brightens everyone’s days with his cheeky antics and sweet nature.
Rosie Beauvais, Rehoming & Welfare Assistant and Perry’s Foster Carer, said: “Perry is an absolute delight to be around and he never fails to make me smile with his goofy personality. He’s such a playful boy who loves spending his time playing games with his never-ending collection of toys. Once he’s worn himself out from a day of fun and games, he’ll happily take himself away for a snooze in his favourite comfy spot.
“Perry loves the outdoors and enjoys spending most of his time in the garden where he will gallop around at full speed when he gets his daily zoomies. He is such a character and he will make a wonderful addition to the right family.”
Despite Sighthounds typically preferring the couch potato lifestyle, Perry is an active dog that likes to stretch his legs. He would love to find a family with an active lifestyle who have experience with Sighthounds to help him burn off his energy with plenty of interesting walks and playtime.
