Our frozen dog treats with a tasty surprise in the centre are the perfect treat for your four-legged friend in summer.
Not only will your dog love them, they are also a great way to help keep them cool on a hot day. These should only be an occasional treat for your dog and should be given to them alongside a well-balanced diet that’s appropriate for their age and lifestyle. They’re not suitable for dogs with special dietary requirements.
INGREDIENTS
80g sweet potato
1 small banana
3 tbsp water
A handful of treats
(Makes 8-12 servings)
METHOD
- Peel and chop your sweet potato, then boil in a saucepan of water for about 10-15 minutes or until soft. Once thoroughly cooked, drain and set aside to cool completely.
- Add the sweet potato and banana to a bowl. Blend until smooth using a hand blender. You can adjust the consistency by adding 3 tbsp of water or more to the mixture.
- Spoon the mixture into an ice cube tray or a silicone mould and fill it halfway.
- Add a treat to the centre of each slot and top with the rest of the mixture. Freeze until set, ideally overnight.
- Once frozen, remove the cubes one at a time and treat your dog! The frozen treats can be stored in a freezer for 2-3 months.
We recommend giving the treat to your dog outside (in a shaded area if it is a very hot day), in their bowl or on a floor which you can easily clean, so it doesn’t melt into any rugs or carpet.
