Our partnership with Mars Petcare provides us with much needed Pedigree and Whiskas for all our dogs and cats as well as raising vital funds.
We have worked in partnership with Mars Petcare UK for over fifteen years during which time they have provided food for our animals; supported nutritional training of staff; helped regenerate outdoor space at our sites; raised a significant amount of money through cause-related marketing and sponsorship initiatives and more recently, both organisations have been jointly campaigning to allow more people to rent home with their pets . Our joint aim has been to ensure that the animals in Battersea’s care get a consistent, high-quality diet while waiting for their loving new homes and to support vulnerable pet owners and ensure rescue shelters don’t get overwhelmed.
Since 2008, Mars Petcare has been supplying our three centres with Pedigree and Whiskas main meals and treats for free, helping us to feed and treat the animals Battersea cares for each year. This generous, annual gift means that our donors’ money will stretch further to care for the thousands of dogs and cats that come through our gates every year. Mars Petcare also provides free food packs to give to all new owners when they adopt an animal so they can make sure their new pet continues to have a consistent great quality diet as they settle into their new home.
We have also worked with Mars Petcare on a wide range of cause-related marketing initiatives and product promotes such as with their Pedigree and Whiskers brands with in-store activations in supermarkets stores nationwide. Initiatives include: a donation per product from every sale of Mars Christmas range, to a "buy one to feed one" and “buy a meal, give a Meal” campaign to leveraging Battersea’s brand and expertise in the sector to support Mars Petcare’s Pet Adoption Mission and the Pedigree Relief Fund. Additionally, Mars Petcare have been proud headline sponsors of Battersea events including our Carol Concert and Muddy Dog Challenges.
Battersea and Mars Petcare have also worked closely together on the key issue of pets and housing, with housing issues accounting for the second most common reason that animals come through our gates.
With new legislation promising to do more to support renters to keep pets in their homes, we have been jointly campaigning to ensure that pet friendly provisions are included in the Renters Rights Bill which is currently making it’s way through Parliament. Together, our well-known and respected brands command credibility and attention for one of our most significant challenges to meet.
Mars Petcare have raised over £540,000 which had supported areas such as our Battersea Academy which provides collaborative face training and development programmes for global shelters, to supporting our Batterseas’ Canine Behaviourist team, who work hard to implement welfare assessments and training plans for dogs, in addition to supporting with rehabilitation and rehoming.
Lorna Catling, Corporate Affairs Director at Mars Petcare UK said:
At Mars Petcare, our ambition is to create A Better World for Pets, and we are proud to partner with Battersea to support their vital work in caring for and rehoming dogs and cats.
Through our partnership, we are proud to feed every dog and cat at Battersea with Pedigree and Whiskas, ensuring they receive the high-quality nutrition they need at a crucial time in their lives. Our associates also actively support Battersea’s work, from volunteering their time to helping at key fundraising events throughout the year. We’re also incredibly proud of our joint work on our campaigning to allow pets to be allowed in private rental housing and we are now so close to seeing this goal being realised through legislation.
Together, we are making a difference—helping more pets find their forever homes and ensuring they can continue to bring joy, companionship, and wellbeing to people’s lives.
