When two-year-old cat Oscar was hit by a car his family made the difficult decision to bring him to Battersea for a chance at a happy and healthy future, as they were unable to provide him with the round-the-clock care he needed.
Battersea clinic staff were immediately concerned about Oscar’s health. X-rays revealed that he had a broken hip and a broken tooth.
Oscar was given pain relief to help him feel more comfortable and was placed on crate rest to ensure he didn’t cause himself any further injury. His back leg had already lost a lot of muscle and had potential nerve damage, so this would make recovery difficult.
To give Oscar the best possible chance of a full recovery, Battersea’s veterinary team decided to amputate his left hind leg.
It was a long road back to health and Oscar began a program of laser therapy, hydrotherapy, and physiotherapy to aid his recovery.
Despite everything he had been through, Oscar remained a loving and affectionate cat. After several weeks of intensive care, staff were delighted to see that Oscar was making great progress. He was regaining strength in his remaining legs, and he was starting to play and explore his surroundings again.
Eventually, the day came when Oscar was ready to be rehomed. Thanks to the dedication and expertise of Battersea staff, Oscar found the perfect home, where he continues to thrive.
